EMBODYING THE CLIMATE CRISIS
8-weeks - Tuesdays, June 4th to July 23, 4-5 pm Eastern
embodying the climate crisis - 8 weeks together
Feelings of anxiety, dread, and helplessness are at an all-time high. Everywhere we look we see signs that people are stressed or suffering. Fire season, catastrophic storms, and chaos are the new normal. We can no longer escape the impacts of a world in crisis.
These are unusual time. We are experiencing disasters today and living with the uncertainty and dread of catastrophes to come.
the PARADIGM SHIFT
Research corroborates what our intuition is whispering and what many cultures have known since time immemorial.
In times of crisis, we need practices that move our grief and fear and bring us into connection.
Understanding the language of our bodies, and sensing into a deeper connection with whatever we care about - the land, water, community - is what drives the heart and clarity needed to know how best to be of service.
There is no shortcut and there are no techno fixes. Lots of people think they need to “get rid” of their anxiety. What’s needed to feel competent is not a decrease but an expansion of our capacity to experience things like fear, grief, pleasure and joy.
Who is this for
————————————————————-
We welcome people working on climate issues or in adjacent fields including mental health, education, community organizing, and journalism. We welcome all humans, whether you’ve been in this area for years or those just beginning to feel the magnitude of this existential threat. You might be a therapist, coach or other professional for which climate change is now a pressing issue for your clients or staff or you may be a parent or teacher worried about the well-being of generations to come. Anyone wanting to feel more human and humane is welcome
THE WORK RIGHT NOW
Harnessing Eugene Gendlin’s Felt Sense Focusing Process, this 8-week course offers a gathering place for professionals to learn to hold space for the complex interplay of climate emotions in their work while simultaneously exploring their personal response to the crisis.
This course is polyvagal-informed and integrates Jan Winhall's Felt Sense Polyvagal Model™ and elements of Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing approach. Ancient wisdom practices and current neuroscience findings are woven throughout.
in this course, you will
develop an understanding of patterned threat or stress responses in yourself and the people around you
practice multiple ways of coming back to your centre
learn to accurately read your body’s signals
enhance your intuition or inner knowing and how that is distinct from fear messaging
explore and honour grief in ways that can shift us out of isolation
explore connecting to a climate-curious community
learn an embodied practice and skills that help you feel more competent that you can share with your clients, friends, colleagues and family.
